Being a Londoner, and working in central, it’s actually rare that I get to spend time just enjoying the amazing little finds around the city.
Last week I was invited to attend the Yelp Unofficial Community launch with Vanessa, at the ICEBAR London* and it was the perfect way to get over the day, and week, we were both having.
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle that is Oxford and Regent Street, the ICEBAR is almost like a small artic haven to hide away from the busy city life, and for once I didn’t mind having to be in W1 after work.
As you can imagine, being the only permanent ice bar in the UK, it can get pretty busy, so entry to the actual ICEBAR itself is ticketed with set entry times, that coordinate with the coloured wristbands you are given upon entry to the venue.
The last time I was at the ICEBAR I tragically only managed to stay in there for eight minutes, even with the thermal cape and gloves provided I was just too cold. This year, the theme is Wild in the City, and to my pleasant surprise the 40 minute limit flew by and just wasn’t enough to check it out in more detail! Safe to say, I lasted a lot longer in the ice, and even though nothing ever prepares me for the sheer cold, I did well… well at least until I picked up my drink.
For the event we were all given a complimentary cocktail, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, in an ice glass. Which not only froze our lips but also slowly, and I mean slowwwlyyyy, melted as we drank from it. So although we had the option to keep our glasses and pay for refills of our preference, it took long enough to drink one drink.
